Steve Martin mocks Roger Stone and Kate McKinnon plays an out of touch Wilbur Ross on “Saturday Night Live.”
Sure, it’s tough to immediately recognize anyone in a face mask and shades, much less a celebrity. But Steve Martin has a helpful hack for that.
“I always wear a mask when I go outside. But something about it was leaving me anxious and unsettled,” the comedian, actor and banjo-playing musician joked Saturday on Twitter. “I thought about the problem, addressed it, and here is the solution.”
The 75-year-old star shared a photo of himself in sunglasses and wearing an impromptu cardboard sign on his head, scrawled “Steve Martin” in red marker, with a bold blue arrow helpfully pointing to his noggin. (Tom Cruise offered his own workaround for face-obscuring masks while heading to a theater to see “Tenet”: Just wave out the window to fans from the backseat of a big SUV.)

Martin’s tweet struck a chord with the masked masses, who responded with photos of themselves wearing their own coronavirus masks and praised the star for suiting up amid the pandemic. By Sunday, Martin’s post had been retweeted nearly 55,000 times and received more than 500,000 likes and 7,000 replies.
Famous fans Jimmy Kimmel, George Takei, Kevin Bacon and Ice T all got in on the action.
“The old ‘arrow-through-the-head’ know-how is finally paying dividends!” Kimmel tweeted.
“I tried this trick, too! But no one believed I was Steve Martin,” Takei cracked.
“I’m with (him),” Bacon replied, with an up arrow.
And Ice T praised Martin for offering “a solution for those of you who feel wearing a mask is losing a bit of yourself.”
