Massachusetts parents sent their child to go school even though the kid had recently testing positive for COVID-19 — forcing nearly 30 classmates into quarantine, according to new reports.
The student attended class at Attleboro High School on Monday, just three days after the parents told the city health department they’d learned of the positive test result, Mayor Paul Heroux told CNN.
The parents told the department they thought the high schooler could show up for class after quarantining for several days, Heroux said.
“This one was an egregious violation of the rules, where the parents, basically, put aside the advice that was given and sent their kid to school,” the mayor told WCVB 5.
“I find it hard to believe that the parents did not get the instructions from the state or doctor that they are supposed to keep kids quarantined for 14 days.”
The school wasn’t notified of the student’s diagnosis until Tuesday, Attleboro High School superintendent David Sawyer said in a letter issued to families Tuesday night, according to CNN.
Twenty-eight students who had close contact with the student were notified and asked to quarantine for two weeks, according to Sawyer.
The school did not provide the student’s name.
